PROMETHEUS BOUND by Aeschylus, new translation by Joel Agee
Directed by Travis Preston, Assistant Directed by Rachel Park
This production, a collaboration between The Getty Villa and the CalArts Center for New Performance, was the world premiere of a sparkling new translation of Aeschylus' text by poet Joel Agee. Punished by the gods for giving fire to humans, the myth of Prometheus explores its title characters relationship to prophecy, suffering, sacrifice, and madness.
The central set piece for the production was a stainless steel wheel designed and constructed in collaboration with designer Efren Delgadillo. (Above: "5-Ton Wheel Takes Center Stage for Prometheus Bound Set" Getty Villa.)
